Breakfast is a MUST

Image
The pandemic hit and we were like well why not do more for breakfast! We use to do whatever to get out of the door to school and work. Whatever was easiest! Then we were all home and had the time to try and make new things so that's what we did. Here are some things we tried during our time at home......some were a hit....some were a miss....some we have made into our monthly rotation.  First up is Shirred Eggs.....when the hubby first mentioned these I had never heard of them or even had them, but I was willing to try. We actually made them this morning, They are very simple and have a great taste. You put the meat (ham, sausage, leftover ground meat, whatever) in the bottom of the (today we had ham steak in it). Then you top it with 2 eggs, salt, pepper, cheese and the most important ingredient of the whole dish....BUTTER!!!! Eat with a side of toast to soap up all the buttery goodness.  Another new one was Okonomiyaki! Can you say it??? This was delicious and I was a little worr

February was busy!

This month was a great reading book for me! I made it my goal this year to read or listen to more books. Audio books have become so much easier for me right now. I have 2 kiddos who keep me busy, but don't always need me to be hovering over them all the time....ya know like they did when they were little and needed me ALL THE TIME! I can listen to a book and still be with them and hear them.  This month I read a books in all different kinds of genres and I needed the change up! I am hoping to get some more this month too! Here's what February looked like!  First Up...."Invisible Girl" by Lisa Jewell   I started this book months ago, but I couldn't get into it. It was a slow start but as the story continued I got into it. This is my second Lisa Jewell book and I really like the way she writes. I read this on my Kindle, which could be why it took me longer to get through. I only have small windows to read an ebook or an actual book. If you like mystery this is your

BAGELS OH HOW I LOVE THEE

Image
If you know me you know I love a good bagel. My love for bagels has grown over the years....I use to be your basic Jane...plain bagel, plain cream cheese! I know not the most exciting thing and I would just go to Panera to get it! Then as I got older I branched out and would get CRAZY with my order....poppyseed with veggie or sesame seed with veggie cream cheese.....BAHAHAHA....not so crazy. I still loved them and bagels will always be my downfall!  Josh introduced me to my new love in bagels. I had it first in Georgia at a hole in the wall shop called Sunny's Bagel and Deli...if you ever come to visit we will go there. They are the sweetest people and have such a variety of different bagel sandwiches. He like a Lox bagel and now that is MY GO TO! I have learned to make it at home and I love it. My oldest also likes it now. She doesn't get all the toppings but we make it for her at home from time to time.  New York Bagels are where it is at! I don't know what they use! (JK

January Round Up

I know this is a food "blog", but there is more to me than just my love of food. I figure I would share some of that today.  I have always loved books and they have become something that I hope my girls love as well. My oldest loves to read, especially now that she can read all on her own. Last year was a ROUGH year of reading. I think I read a total of 5 books last year! I had a goal of 25. Needless to say I could not hold any attention to books at all.  At the beginning of the year I decided that I was going to listen to more books. It would be easier with 2 kiddos having to chase around and entertain. Of course I will read books on my Kindle (what else am I going to do when putting the girls to bed) and I also have a HUGE stack of books to read. I will get to them at some point.    So.....here is my January Round Up on the books I read. I am not a book blogger or influencer at all. I just love books and want to share. Maybe you will find something that interest you.  FIRST

Low and Slow.....KC knows how to do it!

BBQ is a way of life....when it's done right it is delicious. Joe's Kansas City BBQ knows how to do it. As it states on their site ...."In Kansas City, where barbecue is a way of life, it is understood that smoke has mystical properties. Smoke has the power to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. It can transform the least desirable cuts of meat into the most delectable. It can even transform a neighborhood corner gas station into one of the most popular restaurants on the planet."  Their story is a one that should inspire those who want to follow a passion. This is a husband and wife team (Jeff and Joy) who bought a smoker and entered BBQ contest and winning many of them. A list of all their trophies can be found here . They went into business with a man named Joe Don Davidson, who found and owned Oklahoma Joe's Smoker Company in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The three of them opened the first Oklahoma Joe's in 1996. In 1997 Joe sold his smoker business an

Who can name the band that sang that song??? It's only one of my childhood favorite bands!!! I'll tell you at the end of this...if you last that long. Georgia is on the agenda for today. We now live in Georgia and the food has been something that I find lacking......HOWEVER I have found some things that I do enjoy! Peaches for one is something that does not disappoint.....something else that doesn't is PECAN PIE!!!!  I love a good pecan pie....anytime of the year. I make my grandma's recipe whenever I can. You can get it from Savannah Candy Kitchen website or you can get it here too! Just depends on how many pies you want.  Also Georgia Peaches are juicy and delicious! We got these fr

The City That Never Sleeps

The City that Never Sleeps......let's be honest it did in 2020 for a hot minute.....but usually it's the city that never sleeps and let me just tell you they come around this eating adventure a few times!  NEW YORK is a place I want to visit as an adult so I can eat my way through it. I know that New York and Chicago have a thing about their pizzas.....this is not that kind of post! The first thing we ordered from New York was one of the BEST sandwiches I HAVE EVER HAD! I want to go there just to have them make it for me.  Katz's Delicatessen   makes an AMAZING Reuben. Before I get to that let's do a little background on them. They have been around since 1888....It started with two brothers, and then they were bought out as they brought people on. On the Lower East side they are a staple and on Friday nights everyone would turn out for some franks and beans (what they are known for). During WWII all of the owner's sons (three of them) were serving in the war. They w
